Region

 Unemployment in all five counties served by Black Forest Broadcasting improved between June and July according to the state Labor Department. The jobless rate went down from 5.8 to 5.3% here in Potter County. McKean County saw a drop from 5.1 to 4.9%; Cameron County improved from 5.4 to 5.0%; Tioga had a slight decrease from 4.8 to 4.7% and Elk County went down from 5.1 to 4.6%. Chester County had the best rate in Pennsylvania at 2.6% which was down from 3.1%. Forest County had the worst percentage in the state, but it held steady at 6.9%.

McKean County

State police at Lewis Run are investigating a theft by deceptive impersonation. Troopers say a person identifying himself as a PA state police sergeant told a 49 year old Bradford man to purchase prepaid cards to  have an active warrant removed or he would be arrested. Police say it appears the crooks are contacting Megan’s Law Offenders exclusively. But authorities took the occasion to advise everyone to avoid providing identifying information or money to an unknown person over the phone.

DUI charges are being filed against a 26 year old Smethport woman by state police at Lewis Run. Troopers claim they observed the unidentified woman committing traffic violations on Route 155 in Annin Township early Sunday morning.

A 63 year old Lewis Run man is also facing DUI charges. Troopers pulled over his 2011 Chevrolet Silverado after allegedly seeing him commit traffic violations on South Avenue in Bradford early Friday morning. His name was also withheld.

Elk County

A Butler, PA man has been jailed for making terroristic threats. State police at Ridgway say while they were responding to report of gun shots being fired on Owls Nest Road in Highland Township on the evening of August 23 they saw 51 year old Gary Reed violating traffic laws and pulled his 2006 Chevrolet Silverado over. He was subsequently arrested for DUI and multiple firearms violations and was committed to the Elk County Jail awaiting a preliminary hearing.
