The region’s unemployment picture improved between February and March according to the state Department of Labor and Industry. Potter County held steady at 5.3%; McKean 
County realized a slight improvement from 5.3% to 5.2%;; Elk went down from 5.4% to 5.1%; Cameron had a decrease from 5.9% to 5.3% and Tioga’s unemployment rate dropped from 5.4 to 5.1%. Montour County held steady with had the best rate at 2.9% . Philadelphia County still had the worst rate at 6.3% but improved from 6.6%. Pennsylvania’s overall jobless rate for the period was 5.1% while the national figure was 3.8%.
A Smethport woman was hurt in a one-vehicle accident last Thursday night in Eldred Township. Troopers said Alyssa Thomas fell asleep at the wheel of her 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe while going west on the McCrea Brook Road. The SUV went through a stop sign, traveled 
across Route 446,went over some railroad tracks on the Bullis Mills Road , struck a pile of asphalt and traveled another 20 yards before stopping. Thomas was taken to Olean General for treatment of unknown injuries.
DUI charges are pending against a Kane driver following a one-vehicle crash last Thursday night in Wetmore Township McKean County. According to state police Thomas Horton was going east on Route 6 when his Ford F-150XLT failed to make a curve, crossed to the other side, went off the road and into a ditch where it traveled about 50 feet before colliding with a utility pole. Police allege Horton was driving under the influence of alcohol. Charges are pending blood work.
DUI charges are also being filed against a 74 year old Bradford man, whose identity was not revealed. Police claim the suspect had committed multiple traffic violations on Main Street in Bradford while driving his 2005 Ford F-150XLT under the influence of alcohol.
A Bradford man is being charged with DUI after troopers pulled him over for multiple traffic violations on East Washington Street early Sunday morning. Authorities claim he was found in possession off methamphetamine and they discovered an active warrant had been placed for his arrest.
State police at Mansfield say a Fulton, NY man is facing charges in connection to a hit and run in Lawrence Township April 15. Troopers report Brian Richards was driving a vehicle which rear-ended a unit owned by a Mechanicsburg, PA man on Route15 South and fled the scene. A member of the Lawrenceville Fire Department located the license plate belonging to Richards which led to his potential arrest.
