Troopers at Lewis Run made several DUI arrests recently. Clorise  Eles ,52, of Frenchville, Pennsylvania, is being charged for drug possession. Trooper stopped her 2002 Ford F 150 XLT on Route 155 at Annin  Creek Road  in Annin Township Easter Sunday at around 4:15pm. She was allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and related paraphernalia. She was arraigned before District Judge Luther and release on $20,000 unsecured bail following arraignment

A 35 year old Mt. Jewett  woman whose name was not released by troopers was arrested for DUI after officer stopped her 2017 Jeep on  Route 59 in Keating Township this past Saturday evening for alleged traffic violations.  A 33 year old Eldred man is also facing DUI charges after police stopped his vehicle on Route 155 at Route 446 in the Eldred Township on Saturday, April 3. They found he was driving under the influence of alcohol and was taken to Bradford Regional Medical Center for a blood draw.

Two juveniles are facing numerous charges in McKean County, according to State Police at Lewis Run. A 12 year old boy and a 17 year old boy allegedly  stole a 2014 Buick Verano belonging to a 29 year old Port Allegany woman and a 28 year old Smethport woman and then drove it into a structure on East Water  Street and  Emerald Isle in Smethport Borough  during the early morning hours, Easter morning. Police claim that after the crash, the juveniles fled the scene and tried to walk back to the residence  in Port Allegany  where they were located. The suspects were taken into custody and  transported to the  State Police  barracks in Lewis Run for further interviews and the investigation is continuing.

State Police and Lewis Run are  also investigating a Cruelty to Animals discovered back on March 16 at a residence on Route 219 in Hamlin Township.  Police  say they were called for a welfare check and upon further investigation, they discovered that there were 42 dogs and one cat that were living in in poor conditions. Troopers  were assisted at the scene by McKean county SPCA and all of the animals were removed from the home.

At State Police at Lewis Run say they are investigating an alleged rape taking place March 25 in Eldred Borough. An 18 year old Eldred woman told police that she was a victim of a sexual assault  at a home on Edson Street.

Troopers  are also probing a corruption of minors allegedly occurring be between last December 1 and this past Friday in Lewis Run.  State troopers received a call regarding a possible corruption of minors occurring  at an Edson drive home and the investigation is going on with the help from McKean County Children and Youth Services.

A 41 year old Dubois man is facing charges for violating a  protection from abuse order. Police claim that Bryan Adams violated the document, in which a 41 year old Punxsutawney woman is listed as the victim.

A theft on Annin Creek between March 27 and this past Saturday is being probed by State Police at Lewis Run. Someone made off with a black Max  3550 watt generator belonging to an Olean couple. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at 814-368-9213.

DUI charges are pending against a 22 year old Bradford resident whose 2009 Subaru Impreza was stopped on Route 219 South at Elm Street in the city of Bradford last Saturday, April 3. Police claim they found that the driver whose name they did not release was driving the vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance. DUI charges are also pending against 23 year old Austin Cornelius of Olean, whose vehicle was pulled over on Annin  Creek Road at Route 155 in Annin Township on March 13. Police determined that Cornelius was driving his 2008 Jeep under the influence and charges are pending in District Court.

Both people involved in fisticuff in Liberty township McKean county last Wednesday afternoon are being charged in District Court. Police claim that 25 year old Walker Smithmeyer  and 23 year old Kayla Causer, both the port Allegany got into a verbal argument which resulted in each shoving the other before it was over. They  are facing charges in District Court.

Emporium Based State Police are investigating the theft of some firewood from a camp located on Sizer Run Road in Shippen Township earlier this month, the camp is owned by a 65 year old Slippery Rock Pennsylvania resident.

Low water forced a course change for the 2021 race which saw 74 people register for the annual event.  Competitors raced 5 miles instead of the usual 11 mile course, starting in Driftwood and finishing in Sinnemahoning.  The PA Fish and Boat permit sets the low and high flow water marks.  Thursday afternoon the gauge at Sterling Run measured less than 350, by race time it had dropped to 290.  Thanks to the inflow from the Bennetts Branch the gauge at Sinnemahoning hovered at 800.  Long time paddling enthusiast Ken Gerg remarked the course and added a twist.  Racers had to navigate two loops in the course.

For the first time in recent years rescue teams from Pine Glen, Mountaineer Search & Rescue, Renovo and Pleasant Gap had no reports of anyone flipping in the stream.  To comply with Covid-19 restrictions awards were handed on the stream bank and each competitor given chamber bucks to enjoy dinner at an area restaurant.

The coveted traveling trophy named for Bob Umbenhauer was won by the team of  Russel Haines-Ed Leszak.  Other top finishers included Don Frew in 1 person canoe racing class, the team of John and Will Koening took home first place honors in the recreation 2 person canoe class, the team of Saul and Eastyn Solveson finished first in the adult-junior canoe class the team of Seth and Luke Fragale placed first in the Clydesdale canoe class,  the team of Steve Martin-Paul Gruber finished first in the racing 2 person canoe class, the team of Debra Brax, Holly Crouch, Toni Flament and Teresa Stout placed first in the 4 person canoe racing class.  In the women kayak classes Angela Horst placed first in the long class, Debra Witowski placed first in the medium class, Laura Wright placed first in the short class. In the men kayak classes Steve VanErden placed first in the men kayak short class, and Daniel Harmon placed first in the men medium kayak class, David Wiltey placed first in the men kayak long class.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of 12:00 a.m., April 10, there were 4,882 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 1,068,974. Here in the Black Forest Broadcasting service area,  McKean County has 2449 confirmed cases; Tioga 2327;  Elk County 1447; Potter 868 and Cameron 190 confirmed cases. in neighboring New York State Cattaraugus County has 5002 confirmed cases and Allegany County 3126.

There are 2,439 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 496 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

The trend in the 14-day moving average number of hospitalized patients per day is about 3,900 lower than it was at the peak on December 25, 2020. The current 14-day average is also below what it was at the height of the spring peak on May 3, 2020. However, the moving average of number of hospitalized patients has started to increase.

Statewide percent positivity for the week of March 26 – April 1 stood at 9.4%.
